Five Months

Does it just keep getting better and better? I know I say this each month, but I feel like this kid gets funnier and easier and sweeter all the time. I love popping my head over her crib in the mornings and seeing the light of recognition in her eyes. She is such a morning person. I wish I could spend more time with her before work, but she makes sure to give me a few good smiles before I have to go on my way and she spends the day with her favorite person, Daddy. We also finished our breastfeeding journey this month and I am SO okay with that. A friend generously donated several hundred ounces of milk to us, and we have been using that along with formula and her first solids. Stopping the breastfeeding and pumping has also meant a return in "normal" for me... I am feeling much MUCH better after two years of hormone treatment, nine months of pregnancy, and four months of breastfeeding/postpartum feels. Turns out, I AM a normal human after all. Still adjusting to my new identity, body, and time commitments, but every day is easier.
Likes:
-Holding hands. She's happiest when shes got a hand wrapped around mommy or daddy's finger. And we wont complain.
-Her crib (PRAISE!)
-Solid food. She hasn't met a food she doesn't like just yet.
-The arsenal of soft toys keeps growing. Charlotte Pig and Phoebe Panda have joined Monkey, Puppy, Mr. F (the fox), and Lamby in her crew. She rolls deep.
-She's got smiles for anyone these days. She loves attention!
-Chewing on mom and dad's faces, hands, and pretty much anything we put near her.

Schedule: The introduction of the crib really has made this better for us. She's up every morning around 6:30, if we're lucky. The day itself is still kind of a jumble, with her napping 2-3 times a day. However, she's become very clear that 8 pm is her bedtime, thank-you-very-much. She needs to be upstairs of jammies and one last bottle around then or you will pay dearly! Sometimes, we're still up for a little night time snack, sometimes we make it 8-6 hours or so.
Features: How does one resist squishing cheeks? She makes it impossible. At last check, she was around 14.5 pounds, but I'm not getting on the scale with her to recheck. She's in size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothing. Big, warm brown eyes, chunky thighs, this girl has it all! Her beauty mark is still there. Her hair is starting to grow back in, but she's still got that Friar Tuck look going. There's nothing quite like the sound of her voice as she babbles to me. How is it possible to have such a perfect human?

Milestones: Sitting unassisted for a few seconds, rolling both ways (although she does it sparingly), using both hands (alone and together) to hold and manipulate objects, full laughs, standing with support, a full range of consonant and vowel sounds. She's got lots to say!

Challenges: The teething has begun! Little girl had a few really cranky afternoons where nothing would make her happy besides physically chewing on my chin or arms. Tylenol, cold washcloths, and letting her munch have helped. She's battling to drool and increased diapers like a champ, but no teeth have popped through just yet.
Thoughts: This is totally vomit-worthy, but I feel like she and I were MADE for each other. I always said that one of the things I felt like I was missing out on in being childless was the complete connection between parent and baby. I am close to many of my friends' children and can communicate really well with most... but I feel like she and I have an understanding of each other that I just can't explain. I can take one look at her face and body language and know what is making her uncomfortable or happy. Each day with Frankie is so fantastic and I am so thankful for IVF and our doctors. The wait, medicine, and surgeries were 100% worth it for her (we can revisit this when she is two 😂).
